CIDAUT participates in the International Course on Energy Production organized by BEST

On September 7th, the CIDAUT Foundation held the session “Generation of Renewable Thermal Energy in the residential and tertiary sector” corresponding to the International Course “Feel the energy … Life is on” organized by the BEST Association of the University of Valladolid. The sesions was organised in CIDAUT´S facilities at the Boecillo Technology Park.

The BEST organization (Board of European Students of Technology) is an international, apolitical and non-profit association formed by technological career students from all over Europe. It is present in 96 universities in 33 European countries.

The Autumn BEST Course 2017, held in Valladolid from September 3 to 12 and, was focused on knowledge about the present and future of the different energy production processes in Spain. It was attended by a total of 22 students from thirteen European nationalities such as Croatia, Macedonia, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Poland…

During the first part of the session, Henar Olmedo and Valentín Castaño, belonging to the Energy Area of CIDAUT, presented their knowledge about renewable thermal energy production systems. In particular, it was focused on those systmes that best adapt to residential and tertiary buildings and about the optimal conditions for its integration. In addition, it was showed the different European R & D projects in which CIDAUT participates in this field.

The second part of the session was devoted to know in a practical way different testing facilities available in CIDAUT for the development of renewable energy systems. The students could see in a tangible way the different testing facilities of CIDAUTas well as some of the main systems developed in CIDAUT. It was shown in a more special and detailed way the CIDERPLUS boilers for the generation of thermal energy from biomass and the thermal solar panels production facilities of CIDERSOL. Finally, in this last facility the students could see in a real way the automated production process of assembly of the CIDERSOL panels, as well as the manufacturing and storage facilities.

NEOHIRE project kick-off meeting

Last March 8th, the NEOHIRE consortium met in Brussels to kick-off the project. All partners discussed the details of the implementation of the work plan for the following three years of research.

NEOHIRE project (NEOdymium-Iron-Boron base materials, fabrication techniques and recycling solutions to HIghly REduce the consumption of Rare Earths in Permanent Magnets for Wind Energy Application) aims to research and develop new Permanent Magnet material technologies and solutions, in order to achieve a High Efficient Electric Power System based on highly optimized Wind Turbines with a strongly reduced dependence of Europe Access to Critical Raw Materials, especially rare earth elements (REE).

All partners introduced their companies to the EC Project Officer, highlighting their respective role in the project: AICHI, Fraunhofer LBF, INDAR, Kolektor, KU Leuven, Università degli Studi Firenze, University of the Basque Country, University of Birmingham and CIDAUT are coordinated by CEIT.

In this project, CIDAUT will lead WP3 “Permanent Magnet prototyping, modelling, and simulation in windpower generators”, being directly in charge of the magnetic and mechanical properties simulations. CIDAUT also cooperates in WP5 “Life-Cycle Assessment and Cost-Benefit Analysis of the developed solution” supporting UNIFI to calculate the LCA associated to the new magnet.

Freemoby Project Second Year Update.

Freemoby project has just passed its second review evaluation by the European Commission. Focused on the implementation of easy to deploy micro fully electrical vehicles (up to 650kg) and city EVs   (650-1000kg), freemoby is counting on renewable energy installations like solar energy in roof houses, solar parking and photovoltaic battery installations to attract a wider number of EV users impacting on efficiency, reduced energy waste and lowering the dependency on hydrocarbon.

During this second year, the project has achieved the main objective of demonstrating the technologies for home recharging and battery swapping. Three demonstrators have been built and tested for functionality in the recharge of electric vehicles.

Moreover the project has performed successfully recharging from on-board PV and the demonstration and the testing of a ASILC-compliant BMS with outstanding performances in terms of computational power.

Moreover, the project is following-up the dissemination of the results with the continuous participation in to events, fairs and conferences. Amongst them the most important have been a presentation in the USA at the Printed Electronics conference in Santa Clara, the participation to the European Nanoelectronic forum in Cannes and the Motor Show in Torino

Freemoby3

At the same time, during this period CIDAUT has designed a structure that will act as building/home for validation purposes. This structure allocates twenty five photovoltaic panels, connecting them to the EVSE and the rack system, allowing the user to either charge the vehicle or make use of Freemoby’s partial swapping system. In order to design this structure, a load analysis has been carried out, including computer fluid dynamics calculations in order to evaluate the loads the panels are submitted to under different wind conditions. The selected loads have been used in the mechanical calculation and design cycle of the structure, thus resulting in the following.

In the upcoming period, CIDAUT will build this structure to use it as demonstrator in the Freemoby project. Keep informed of the project events and dissemination activities at http://www.moby-ev.eu/event/.
