The CÍCLICOM project held its closing event in Madrid on 18 February with the conference “CÍCLICOM Conference: Innovation & Circularity in Plastics. Connecting Supply and Demand for Recycled Plastics in Spain”, organized by Aclima, Basque Environment Cluster. The session brought together stakeholders from across the entire value chain — recyclers, converters, end-user industries, sectoral associations, public administrations and R&D&I organizations — to discuss how to accelerate the circularity of complex plastics and composite materials in industrial sectors such as automotive, aeronautics, renewable energy and electrical-electronic industries.
CÍCLICOM is an innovation ecosystem driven by Fundación GAIKER, Aclima– Basque Environment Cluster, AIMPLAS – Plastics Technology Centre, ANARPLA – Spanish Association of Plastic Recyclers, Fundación CIDAUT and VALORIZA Servicios Medioambientales. The CÍCLICOM project works to develop high value-added technical solutions that enable the recovery, valorization and reintroduction of complex plastic and composite waste streams which, in many cases, still end up in landfill, facilitating industry access to high-quality secondary raw materials.
During the event, the main outcomes of the project were presented, and through keynote speeches and roundtable discussions, participants addressed the challenges and opportunities involved in effectively connecting the supply and demand of recycled plastics in Spain. Key topics included the need to advance in material quality, traceability and homogeneity, as well as the importance of cross-sector collaboration to overcome technical, regulatory and market barriers.
One of the highlights of the event was the presentation of the CÍCLICOM National Platform for Complex Plastics and Composites, conceived as a space to connect technological capabilities with industrial needs and as a tool to ensure the continuity of the ecosystem created. The platform is designed with a growth-oriented vision and already includes leading project entities, with the aim of further expanding the network and generating new opportunities for innovation and collaboration.

In this regard, Fundación CIDAUT delivered a talk focused on the advantages and benefits of joining the CÍCLICOM Platform for companies and organizations seeking to advance in the valorization of complex plastic waste. The intervention highlighted the value of integrating into a collaborative network that provides access to specialized technical knowledge, joint innovation opportunities and direct connections with potential industrial partners.
With this event, CÍCLICOM project closes a stage of collaborative work and opens a new phase aimed at consolidating the progress achieved, strengthening the recycled plastics market and accelerating the transition towards a more competitive, innovative and circular industrial model.
